  • 1976 - It took 26 years, but Florida finally releases a man who was held in a state mental hospital for having sex with another man
  • 1980 - American Journal of Psychiatry publishes an article noting that religious conversion is a cure for homosexuality.
  • 1980 - Anita Bryant is interviewed by Ladies Home Journal and notes that she no longer feels as "militant" as she once did about gay rights.
  • 1985 - Cosmopolitan article writes about AIDS noting, "If ever there was a homosexual plague, this disease is it."
  • 1986 - A Georgia man is fined under the state's "rarely enforced" sodomy law.
  • 1988 - First World AIDS Day, organized by the World Health Organization, is held.
