We're only a couple of months into the Bush Era and already there is much on our horizon. Some positive. Some negative. Some downright frightening.

Dominating the calendar we find Civil Union Bills along with Anti-GLBT Boy Scout Measures around the United States. And, in California, my home state, we have dueling measures:

As previously discussed, AB 25 is a bill that has been proposed in the State Assembly to recognize certain aspects of civil unions in California. Amongst its proposed provisions would be that a right will be created for cause of action for negligence, including the negligent infliction of emotional distress and a cause of action for wrongful death. This bill would make these provisions applicable to domestic partners in addition to currently recognized surviving spouses.

But Pete Knight, father of both a gay son and author of the insidious "Proposition 22" wherein he felt the need to define marriage for California and all Californians, is at it again with a "Marriage Protection Pledge" which he asks legislators to sign in order to "support the marriage act in preparation for the debate on various issues coming up before the legislature concerning additional benefits to domestic partners." The pledge language includes a promise that the legislators will support marriage and "oppose counterfeits to marriage" with each vote they cast in the California Legislature.

What else is on the agenda?
