In light of the recent news story regarding Nathanial Bruno, a 19 year old UC Berkeley student who is running for City Council in Hayward and whose platform includes an end to the "gay prom" currently held annually in Hayward, I started to express my outrage over the fact that we fight so hard, at times, to separate ourselves from the majority.

I even had an awesome opening:

Not so many years ago, here in the United States, African Americans had the privilege of attending their own schools. Drinking from their own water fountains. Having the backs of busses reserved for their use. Weren't forced to eat in the same restaurants as caucasians, but rather had the privilege of eating in "colored" restaurants reserved for their use. Jobs of importance were set aside for these Americans: janitor, window washer, busboy. Even today, police officers will stop African Americans who are driving down the street, just to ensure that they are all right.

I'm sorry.... are you having a problem with the fact that I used the word "privilege?"

You mean it's not a privilege to be segregated from the majority of the community?

There was only one problem - I've said all this before, and not that long ago. Well, my thoughts haven't changed, but I'm too young to start repeating myself.
