- 1970 - The Dick Cavett Show features two gay activists to explain what "gay liberation" is all about.
- 1978 - Dan White assassinates San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk.
- 1980 - Bosum Buddies, a T.V. show about two men (Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari) who have to pretend to be and dress as women to live in an all-girl hotel, premieres on ABC.
- 1985 - Cleve Jones conceives of the Names project quilt.
