Coming Out Stories Gallery - Matt (3)

My name is Matt. I come from a small town in Cape Cod Massachusetts called Centerville. Ever since I was young I knew I was gay. My father would always call me gay and said things like, "All you'll ever be is a gay fag-boy." Father who was an alcoholic abused my mother; She would never say anything to him about calling me those things. I knew to myself that that, yeah I was gay, but my father always made it seem as though it were a bad thing, so I never came out all through adolescence. All through high school I was picked on and teased as being gay, yet I said nothing. Finally I met my boyfriend Ben. He was also called gay and fag all through high school. Ben made me realize that it was okay to be gay. Being gay is not an even thing. I made a decision to tell my family I was gay. They shunned me as expected so I moved away to Syracuse where I know live with Ben living out a happy life of open gayness. I am happier now than I have ever been in my whole life. I hope my story can help others, who like me are at that point in there life where they thinking about coming out of the closet, make the decision to come out a lot easier.
