Readers Respond - Pope - Comment by ARKVOW@aol.com

Subject: Pope vs. Gays

Dear Deborah Levinson

I do mean dear. :o) I am not a member of a Roman Catholic church, in fact I am a member of a church that descends from the reformers whom the Catholic church martyred. However we do hold to the values of scripture, and that is where I agree with the Pope. I absolutely do not believe that I am, in any way, a better person than you. I was born in sin and iniquity and I sin, violate God's stated will, every day.

My love for you as someone who is proud of her "sexual orientation" is not hindered. God created you and I in His image. He created our personality, understanding(mind) and emotions(heart), out of nothing and made our bodies from the egg and sperm of our human parents. Our human parents descend from, and thus inherited the sinful nature of, our first parents Adam and Eve.

There is a reason that God loves heterosexual marriage and therefore hates adultery and fornication, which homosexuality is catagorized with, any sexual relation outside the "one flesh" unity of a man and a woman, it is the violation of a lifelong covenant.

God is glorified in revealing Himself in the perfect unity of three eternal persons the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The first thing that God concluded about Adam was that it was "not good" for him to be alone. No animal was suitable as a companion and God made sure that Adam concluded this on his own in naming the beasts and birds of the garden.

Then God created the woman, Eve, out of the rib of Adam and gave her the role of helper, similar to the word for the Holy Spirit and third eternal member of the Godhead. Man and woman were both equal persons, made in the image of God and good. Good because they glorified the Trinity, equal persons with different roles, made of the same substance and unified in purpose. Jesus is the bridegroom of the church. He loves the church and laid down His life for her.

Therefore any union outside of the lifelong covenant of marriage is hateful to God. It destroys His image portrayed in the institution of marriage. An institution He initiated before He even instituted the Sabbath worship of Himself.

Any union outside of marriage, therefore, brings us harm. I am sure you would agree that adultery and divorce has a devestating affect on children and the persons who once pledged to love for life. Every sexual union outside of marriage has equal, though maybe differing effects on our hearts and bodies.

Because I love you I must warn you that your choice has consequences. Romans 1:20-28 & Hebrews 13:4. I pray that you will understand my motives. I have no desire or even any right to condemn you. As I said in my introduction I am not free from sin in my own life. Yet, as I seek to glorify God and obey His will for my life, I find my heart more and more hating the sin I commit, and the blessings abounding in every small obedience of His perfect and good will. I do seek to love the Lord with all of my mind, heart and strength. My love for you stems from that love, you are made in His image.

Jesus Christ lived a perfect life and obeyed every command of His Father. He was born of a virgin and concieved of the Holy Spirit. He lived in flesh yet without the inherited sinful nature. He died to fulfill the covenant that Adam broke. That we may have eternal life through Him. His life of perfect obedience can be attributed to you, free justification. All you must do is trust, love and learn to obey Him. His law is life, His will is good. Please turn to Him, seek His will for your life. I would be thrilled to help you find a good church, where you can be loved, healed and discipled.

Sincerely and in the love of Christ,
Arrie
