Kopay had some interesting things to say, amongst them that he believes that all people are physically bisexual (and that he was quite active with "the ladies" while he was in high school and college).
He also reminds us of the days gone by when, like so many others, he and his fraternity brother would drop their dates off at their sorority, then return to their room and ... it was pure sex, and they never, ever spoke about it. Their girlfriends established that they were heterosexual and this was just something they did for each other.
Kopay also believes that one of the reasons he was so tough on the field was to prove that he was ... well, what's the opposite of tough in this context? He didn't say the word, but he was trying to prove, to the world and himself, that he was no fairy.
This is a continuing theme with Kopay who says, in an online chat hosted by ESPN, "When I played, I was a very aggressive, tough ballplayer -- I had to be as an over achieving running back. In 10 years, I gained their respect by being especially tough, but that was also a good ruse to hide my true sexual identity, by being tougher. It seems like the biggest fag-haters I've known are the people who are most confused about their sexuality. I know, because I was one of them."
