Newest Information::The petition was assigned No. 01-44 -- received July 5, 2001 and placed on the docket July 10, 2001. What follows is a Petition to the United States Supreme Court asking the Court to review a ruling of the IRS that the Petitioner, Robert Mueller, was not entitled to file his taxes using a "married" status. The Petitioner makes three arguments, that the IRS Court ruling is wrong on the basis of "Equal Protection," "Separation of Church and State" and "Cruel and Unusual Punishment," each protections found in Amendments to the United States Constitution. Whether Petitioner's case will even be heard, or whether victory is likely is not what is important here. What is important here is that Petitioner has risked him own liberty and finances in order to raise a question that is of importance and should be of interest to all gays and lesbians, even those who are not partnered and/or would not avail themselves of civilly recognized marriage were it to become available. This is not a question which will be answered, nor a wrong that will be fixed, by sitting back and waiting. This is an issue that must be constantly raised and addressed until even the most close-minded can see that it is nothing more than a demand for actual equal rights under the law. In Pride, Note: Use the "Table of Contents" to the right to move through the Petition.
