Coming Out Stories Gallery - Mari-Elle Grant

More Stories

My name is Mari-Elle and I am 17 years old female from Maine.  I don't really know what to talk about but here goes nothing. At first I didn't know what was going on and didn't want to accept that i was a lesbian. I thought that I was going through a phase and that it would go away. It never did. I was scared out of my mind when I first started coming out. It was one day in july that I just said to my sister that I really needed to talk. She accepted me no problem. After a couple weeks I started coming out more and more. As of now I have not told all of my extended family, in time I will tell them though. I feel ok at school but I hear things sometimes that really bother me even though I think that its there loss. I mean if they don't want to be my friend because I am gay they are missing out on a great friendship. There was one time in school where a group of students came in the room and were bashing gays. I asked them in a nice tone to stop and they didn't. I said to them whats so wrong with being homosexual. We have feeling to, we deserve mto be treated like people. I went on but the whole room got very silent and no one brought up the subject again after they asked me if I was gay and I said yes. It felt so good to stand up for my self. That is something that I didn't become good at before  I started going to a group.  When I do have a hard time at school I am thankful to have a safe place to go to if I need to talk because here in the wonderful state of Mlaine we have a program called Out Right. Out Right is for GBLTQ teens to go have a safe fun and to just hang out and talk. I think that has helped me deal with the homophobic society that we live in. Well thanks for reading my coming out story and i hope that you e-mail me in your spare time.
